GENERAL DESCRIPTION
· The accountant, under the direction of the Assistant Controller, is responsible for preparing financial analyses of operations including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules for the guidance of management. The accountant is responsible to assist with the company's financial plans, and policies, accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports.
· An additional component to this role will be to provide special project assistance to the President with respect to other businesses managed.
· This is a hands-on, growth-oriented position and requires an individual who thrives in a changing environment, who is comfortable interacting at all levels.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
. Analysis and interpretation of accounting information to assess operating results in terms of profitability, performance against
budget and cost containment.
. Maintains the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.
. Prepares daily, monthly and annual reports that outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses and
earnings based on past, present and future operations on a timely, accurate and complete basis.
. Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control
procedures including cost accounting, general accounting and budgetary controls.
. Manage the equipment lease/contract process
. Responsible for all compliance related issues with respect to federal, provincial, corporate tax, payroll and other applicable taxes.
Ensures policies are in accordance with evolving regulations.
. Performs credit evaluations on clients and potential clients
. Special projects as required
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
· Designation or working torwards CMA, CGA, CA with 3+ years of financial experience
· Solid analytical and technical skills with ability to evaluate financial data
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including strong oral and written skills
· Tactful with strong management skills.
· Ability to organize, coordinate and direct projects.
· Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, Maddocks
· Demonstrated decision-making skills.
· Demonstrated problem-solving skills with an emphasis on collaboration with peer group.
· Flexible work style with the ability to handle numerous tasks simultaneously within a deadline oriented function.
JOB DIFFICULTY
This position requires an individual with a strong set of skills as outlined above. This is a function that requires the individual to think and act independently as well as being able to work within a team-based environment. It requires a level of persuasion particularly when interacting with and managing the external relationships, strong attention to detail and the ability to negotiate to achieve best in class solutions for the company. The individual must demonstrate integrity, energy, leadership qualities and the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of contributors in a changing and growing environment.
ACCOUNTABILITY
This individual is responsible for interacting with all levels of employees, management and external service providers including maintaining relationships with banks and other service providers.
