Accountant
QUALIFICATIONS
* Relevant Post Secondary Education
* A professional accounting designation recognized in Canada ( or considerable education and experience in the accounting profession to determine equivalency)
* Ability to apply accounting principles, concepts and methodologies
* Non profit experience
* Demonstrated ability working with financial budgets including City Budgets.
* Demonstrated experience with financial reporting for multiple departments
* 5 or more years accounting experience ( experience with non profit preferred)
* A sound knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Accpac or similar financial software.
* Strong attention to detail- accuracy
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Strong Leadership skills
* Strong Analytical / Problem solving skills
* Exceptional planning and organizing skills
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment
* Payroll experience using Ceridian Insync (or similar) payroll
* software and a sound knowledge of related legislation an asset
RESPONSIBILITIES
Budgets / Ongoing Financial:
* Prepares annual budget submission to the City of Ottawa and assists in the preparation of annual Ministry budget and posting of monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals
* Prepares monthly budget variance/analysis reports and monthly financial statements. Monitors financial results for all programs of the agency
* Liaises with and provides guidance to program managers on all financial and budgetary matters affecting their programs
* Examines accounting records and prepares financial statements and reports
* Develops and maintains cost finding, reporting and internal control procedures
* Analyzes financial statements and reports and provides financial business advice
* Reconciles sub ledger to general ledger account balances
* Oversees the maintenance and security of all agency financial records
* Completes surveys and reports for Federal, Provincial and Municipal agencies, as required
* Develops financial policies and procedures as required
* Oversees accounts payable and receivable functions for the agency
* Advises executive director, board and program managers on financial matters.
Annual Audit:
* Oversees the year-end closing of the agency's financial records
* Coordinates and ensures all preparations are made for the annual audit
* Acts as primary liaison and contact for the auditors
Payroll:
* Maintains the agency's Pay Equity Plan
* Maintains Wage Subsidy reports
Cash Management:
* Responsible for liaison with the agency's corporate banker.
* Monitors corporate bank account and makes regular online payments
* Prepares monthly bank reconciliation
* Ensures best return on operating funds by monitoring bank accounts, investments and cash flow
